DAY 2 Sunday 7th August

So Day 1 was emotional. An incredibly dramatic road race, narrow misses in the swimming, and hopefully today the coronation of the brilliant Adam Peaty. Also hopefully pointing to possible medal hopes later……………

  1. William Fox-Pitt leads thus far in the 3 day eventing.
  2. Brilliant win over the Aussies from the ladies hockey team
  3. A solid debut from boxer Joe Cordina.
  4. Solid show from the male gymnasts, especially in the pommel horse. Remarkably Nile Wilson now enjoys joint favouritism in the horizontal bars.

Apart from the men’s 100m breastroke today, (CMON PEATY), it is the ladies road race today. Lizzie Armistead has long been one of the favourites, but as yesterday’s men’s race shows, this is not an event suited to those with an indifferent understanding of their own whereabouts. I am certainly making no predictions.

James Guy starts his attempt on the 200m freestyle, his favoured event. He starts 7/5 second favourite behind Sun Yang.

Conditions notwithstanding, the first appearance of our heralded men’s coxless four.

I’m tired.
